Not One Word Has Failed
Wait (v.) - stay where one is or delay action until a particular time or until something else happens (Oxford American Dictionary)
Waiting in line during enrollment. Waiting for a ride home. Waiting for the DSL to connect to the Internet. Waiting for the movies to be downloaded completely. Waiting for a page to load in my computer. Waiting for my favorite TV series to be aired. Waiting for a groupmate to go online. Waiting on exam results. Waiting on grades to be posted in CRS. Waiting for college graduation. Waiting for a direction. Waiting for the right person that I will spend the rest of my life with. Waiting for an opportunity. Waiting for my career to take in place. (It’s hard to beat the system, when we’re standing at a distance. So we keep on waiting, waiting on the world to change. Haha. Kumanta?)
In all aspects of life, there’s always the “waiting period”. Most of my energy go down the drain and it eats up my time as well. Nobody can do anything about it, we have to deal with it. Obviously, waiting totally pesters me. Blimey, a quiet person like me can be impatient all the time once in a while.
While waiting, why don’t we do other things. Read a book while waiting in line. Clean the bedroom or wash the dishes while waiting for a movie to be downloaded. Listen to music while commuting. Write about experiences and share it to others. Meet new friends. Learn how to make a short film. Learn from people. Explore the world. Study God’s Word. We should keep our minds busy so that in the long run, we can say to ourselves that we didn’t waste our time in waiting after all. Small achievements are overrated nowadays, we crave for bigger achievements. But we have to narrow down our standards and appreciate the simple things in life.
We should be like Joshua. By the time he was about to take his last breath, he reflected on how God has been faithful with the Israelites when they started to follow Him. God promised to give them the Holy Land, Canaan, but when they arrived to the place, other people had occupied the land of milk and honey. These settlers had built fortified cities and owned powerful armies that guard the place. God gave the Israelites the assignment to conquer them all and claim the Promised Land. They already wandered in the wilderness for forty years and now this — they must defeat an army more powerful than their own. But as Joshua contemplated over this experience, he knew that God had kept every promise. Not one word has failed.
You know with all your heart and soul that no one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed. (Joshua 23:14, NIV)
In life, we understand a situation only after it has happened. And it gives us the assurance of how faithful God has been to us. Sometimes, we drift away too much from God as we wait for His promises to be fulfilled, like the Israelites who wandered for forty years in the desert which could only had taken them a few years. Our faith in Him can be put into test. It is like our problems or the “waiting period” is too big for us, but we should know that our God is greater than our problems. While waiting, it is best to look back on how God has fulfilled His promises to us, even the smallest blessings we received.
Let us hope unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23, NIV)
We can always count on God’s promises. Although it might take time for Him to fulfill His promises, we should be confident enough that He will never fail us. Only He can know when the right timing is.
Waiting is really a challenging task to do. We will never experience God’s power if we always choose the easy way. Trusting in our own strength will never speed things up, instead, waiting forces us to rely on God. His greatest power can be displayed in our weakness. We should savor every moment of the waiting phase because there are many things stored for us. We still have to experience what He can do through us. We will soon enjoy the reward for waiting upon the Lord.

God [talking to me]: “I’m saving you for someone special. I’m still molding you and your partner-in-crime future husband. Now is not the perfect time for you to meet each other and be together. A promise is a promise. It will never be broken. You’ll just have to wait.”
Hannah [talking to God]: “Alright then, Lord! I’ll take comfort in Your promise and I’m willing to wait patiently. As the picture above states, I am definitely reserved for someone special. As for the days/weeks/months/years to come, I will strive to seek Your knowledge and love first and prepare myself to be the deserving wife to my future husband.” WEH! Kinikilig naman na ako. Wala pa!
